Support
Every Sketchy Horizon app is designed and built by one person. There’s no support team and no ticket queue, just me, doing my best. Most answers are below. If yours isn’t, email support@sketchyhorizon.com and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.
Float
What does Float cost?
You pay once, in your own currency, and the App Store shows you the exact price before you confirm. One purchase covers both the Mac and iPhone apps. New users get a full month's free trial — the whole app, not a limited version. When the month ends, everything keeps working except adding a new todo, which asks you to buy Float. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel.
I already bought Float. How do I get it on my other device?
The purchase covers both apps under the same Apple Account. Install Float on the other device, sign in with the same Apple Account, and it will be recognised. If it isn't, look for Restore Purchase in Settings, and email me if that doesn't sort it.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no Float account and nothing to sign up for. Sync uses your own private iCloud, and the purchase is handled by your Apple Account.
Where are my todos stored?
On your device. Sync travels through your own private iCloud database, not a Float server. If iCloud is unavailable Float still opens with the same data, local-only, and says so in Settings → Data & Sync rather than pretending it synced.
Can I back up or move my list?
Yes, two ways, and they do different jobs. Automatic backups write plain JSON files into a folder you choose: those are the files Float can read back with Restore from Backup. Export as Markdown writes your list as a readable document, which is deliberately not restorable: putting a todo back needs its ordering key and timestamps to the fractional second, so a readable document cannot also be the record. Automatic backups run on a schedule with retention pruning.
A reminder didn't go off.
Check three things, in this order. Notifications must be allowed for Float in System Settings or iOS Settings — Float tells you in the reminder picker when they aren't, and it never re-asks once the system prompt has been declined. Then check the reminders switch in Settings → Notifications inside Float. Then check whether a Focus is holding it: reminders are marked time-sensitive so a Focus should let them through, but a per-app Focus rule can still block them.
Worth knowing: a reminder is spent once it has fired. The bell leaves the row and the field stops reading a time, because an alarm that already rang and will never ring again should not still say “8:15 AM”.
What is Low Tide?
A scheduled pass through the undated todos you haven't touched in 14 days, at 9:00 AM on Monday unless you choose another day. It shows one card at a time with its exact age and list position, and six answers: surface, sink, complete, float, leave it or move to the Trash. It appears because it is the day you picked, not because anything judged your list, and answering it in any way holds it until the next scheduled pass.
Can I drag to reorder?
No, on purpose. Order changes through float, surface and sink — controls that are visible, reversible, and reachable by VoiceOver and Switch Control, which a drag never was.
Will you add projects, folders or tags-as-hierarchy?
No. Float is one flat list where vertical position means attention. Projects, folders, sub-tasks, priority fields and automatic reordering are non-goals rather than a backlog — the whole app is built on their absence. Tags exist, but they are words you type, not a filing system.
Something is in the wrong place and I can't get it back.
Complete, float, surface, sink, defer and Move to Trash are all reversible. Completing, moving to the Trash, deferring and unfloating raise an Undo toast for a few seconds, and ⌘Z performs it on a Mac. Unfloating sends a todo to the top of the ordinary list, just below anything still floated or due, and Undo puts it back exactly where it was. The only permanent act in the app is deleting a todo from the Trash, and that asks first.
Found a bug or have an idea?
Email support@sketchyhorizon.com. For bugs, your device model and OS version help me track things down faster, and if you can say what the list looked like before and after, better still — most of the hard ones are about where something ended up.
