Float on the Mac: the Today view under a pink dawn sky, five todos on the water, and the capture bar at the bottom of the window.
Float on iPhone: Today, with two floated todos, one overdue, and two due today.
Float on iPhone Duo, opened flat: the whole list on the left page, and Book the dentist open on the right page with its date, yearly repeat, reminder, tags and note.
Today at midday under clear skies: two floated todos, one overdue, and two due today.

One list.
Nothing to file.

No projects. No folders. No categories quietly multiplying in a sidebar. Where a todo sits is what it means, and it stays put until you move it.

  • Today is what needs you now: what you floated, what’s due and what’s overdue.

  • Everything is the whole list, in the order you put it there. Same list, two views.

A long-press on Replace the bike chain, dated October 29, opens its menu: Float, Surface, Sink, Anchor until Oct 29, Complete and Move to Trash.

Four moves.
That’s the whole system.

Long-press a todo on iPhone, or right-click it on the Mac. Every move has a name, and nothing shuffles itself around behind your back.

  • Float pins it to the very top, and into Today, until you unfloat it.

  • Surface sends it straight to the top of your ordinary todos.

  • Sink sends it straight to the bottom of them. Not now. Not today.

  • Anchor is for a todo with a date ahead. It waits at the very bottom, then comes back into Today on its day.

Low Tide on sand: “Low Tide. Seventeen things uncovered.” One card, Sell the old camera lenses, untouched 412 days, with Surface above it, Sink below it, and Leave it and Move to Trash buttons.

Once a week,
the tide goes out.

That’s Low Tide. On a day you pick, it gathers the undated todos you haven’t touched in 14 days and hands them back one at a time. Surface it, sink it, float it, finish it, leave it, or finally let it go.

No judgement. No streaks. Everyone has a 412-day-old todo.

Buy it once.
Get it on your Mac and iPhone.

One purchase gets you both apps, each made the way its platform expects. They stay in sync through your own private iCloud, not a server of mine.

An empty Today on iPhone during light morning showers: clouds, a rainbow, and a small sailboat on the water.

A sky with some personality

The sky follows the real hour, sun and moon. Turn on live weather and it shows the clouds and the rain too. When a view is empty, someone is out on the water.

Live weather is off until you turn it on in the app. It uses your approximate location and Apple Weather.

Float's large Today widget on an iPhone Home Screen, listing five todos with their coloured rings and dates.

Today, on your Home Screen and desktop

The Today widget comes in three sizes on iPhone and Mac. Tap a circle to complete a todo, or the plus to add one.

iPhone also has a Quick Capture widget and a Control Centre control.

Float’s menu bar item open beside the clock: Open Float, Open quick capture ⌃⌥Space, Settings ⌘, and Quit Float ⌘Q. Float’s quick capture box: date, repeat, reminder, note and tag controls above a field that says Capture anything.

A proper Mac app, through and through

A menu bar item, and menus with a keyboard shortcut for everything. Press ⌃⌥Space in any app, type the todo, and the app you were in stays in front.

The menu bar item is optional, so you can hide the Dock icon instead.

All the basics.

Everything a todo list needs. Nothing it doesn’t.

  • Due dates

On its day, a todo comes into Today. The date never moves it in the list.

  • Repeats

Daily, weekly, monthly, every 6 months or yearly.

  • Reminders

A notification at the time you pick, one per todo.

  • Interactive notifications

Snooze a reminder or complete it without opening Float.

  • Defer

Push anything in Today to tomorrow or next week.

  • Notes

With a little formatting: bold, italic, lists and links.

  • Tags

A word that helps you find a todo again.

  • Search

Titles, notes and tags, matched as you type.

  • Done

What you finish is kept, so you can look back and feel good about it.

  • Trash

Kept for 30 days in case you change your mind. Then it’s gone.

  • iCloud sync

Your list travels through your own private iCloud. No Float server, no account.

  • Backups

A plain file you can read without Float, in iCloud Drive or a folder on your device.
